The ETH Zurich unit Educational Development and Technology (Lehrentwicklung und -technologie), which reports to the ETH Rector, provides support to ETH faculty in their teaching activities. It offers high-quality courses, coaching and guidance for lecturers, and fosters pedagogical innovation and the deployment of digital technology in university teaching.

From November 2013 or by arrangement this unit is seeking a

Specialist in Faculty Development (80-100%)

The successful candidate will work within the Curriculum and Faculty Development group. On the basis of his/her comprehensive (preferably university-level) teaching experience he or she will conduct continuing education events, workshops and classroom observations independently and as part of the team. Together with the team he or she will develop new course programmes and modules for the unit’s continuing education activities, and help to set up a database of pedagogical materials and instruments for ETH Zurich faculty.

The successful candidate holds a Master’s degree or doctorate and (ideally) a teaching qualification. His/her active engagement with issues of university teaching is founded upon personal teaching experience. He or she is familiar with fundamental university teaching concepts and current themes. His/her conceptual skills and methodological range will contribute to the shaping of the Curriculum and Faculty Development group. The successful candidate is poised and a good communicator, can express him- or herself well in both German and English, and is able to network rapidly with important contacts within and outside of ETH Zurich.

Im Zentrum des Bandes steht die Leitfrage: Welche Funktionen muss ein webbasiertes Portfolio im Studium und im Übergang zum Berufsfeld erfüllen, damit es als Mehrwert gegenüber der bisherigen Praxis wahrgenommen wird? Das bedeutet auch: Welche  bestehenden Probleme hilft es zu lösen und welchen Anforderungen der Praxis muss es genügen, um von den Akteuren als nützlich und lohnenswert bewertet zu werden?

Diese Publikation fokussiert Konzepte und Erfahrungen im Umgang mit E-Portfolios an Hochschulen sowie beim Übergang vom Studium in die Berufstätigkeit. Die beteiligten Personen sind Dozierende und Studierende, aber auch Fachpersonen, die den Wechsel ins Berufsleben professionell begleiten oder bei einer beruflichen Neuorientierung und bei einem Stellenwechsel Unterstützung in Form von Coaching anbieten. Es werden Software-Plattformen, Technologien und Dienstleistungsangebote vorgestellt, die eine Nutzung von E-Portfolios an Hochschulen sowie für Privatpersonen technisch ermöglichen.

Durch die breit gefächerte Auswahl der Beiträge unterbreitet die Publikation sowohl theoretische Grundlagen als auch praxisorientierte Inputs.

HETL-Conference
The International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association (HETL) invites you to submit a proposal for a presentation at its 2014 International HETL Conference, to be held in Anchorage, in partnership with the University of Alaska Anchorage, June 8-10, 2014.  Proposals are solicited on all topics related to higher education including those involving new technologies and globalization related issues. Both scholarly and practice reports are invited. Proposals are especially favored on the conference theme: Impacts of Social and Mobile Media on Higher Education. As in our January 2013 conference at the University of Central Florida, participants will be from the gamut of academic disciplines across the arts, sciences, and professions, as well as from other administrative and staff functions delivering and supporting new technologies and approaches to learning. As with every HETL conference, we support participation from around the world. Please submit your proposal for a presentation before the July 26, 2013, deadline or simply join us as a conference attendee by registering. No proposal is required if you are attending but not presenting.

The central administrative unit Educational Development and Technology
(LET – Lehrentwicklung und -technologie, http://www.let.ethz.ch/index_EN), which reports to the Rector of ETH Zurich, supports ETH Zurich faculty in their teaching task. LET runs high-quality courses, conducts consultations, fosters teaching innovation and assists in the deployment of new educational technologies.

From April 2013 or by negotiation, the following position will become available:
Expert in Curriculum and Faculty Development (80%)

The successful candidate will be part of the Faculty Development group. Together with the FD team he/she will develop new modules for LET continuing faculty education courses and help to build up a database with information and materials for ETH Zurich faculty. He/she will assist Directors of Studies in the ETH departments in the development of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes. This will involve the analysis and evaluation of existing degree programmes, plus the needs-oriented development of concepts and their implementation, together with the respective instruments and guidance to Directors of Studies regarding quality and project management issues. In this task he/she will work closely with the Prorector for Curriculum Development, other LET groups, and further ETH units.

The successful candidate will hold a university degree and, ideally, an additional qualification in the area of didactics or pedagogy. He/she will have experience in university didactics and curriculum development, and possess excellent communication skills in German and English. His/her conceptual abilities and strong interest in the area of university teaching will make a fundamental contribution to the areas of curriculum development and faculty development. The successful candidate will possess a confident and competent manner, which engages and convinces discussion partners.

Die Schweizer Community für E-Learning, neue Bildungsmedien etc. (Eduhub) hat mehrere “Special Interest Groups” (SIG) zu verschiedenen Themen: www.eduhub.ch/community/SIGs/ 

Ich bin Mitglied in mehreren SIGs, u.a. der SIG “Science 2.0″. Mit der Erstellung des Blogs wollen wir in Kommunikation mit anderen Interessierten kommen.

Ziele der Gruppe und des Blogs:

«Verschiedene Themen und damit verbundene Begriffe, wie E-Science, Offene Wissenschaft, Open Educational Ressources, Open Access und weitere haben uns zusammengeführt, um gemeinsam über aktuelle Entwicklungstendenzen der Wissenschaft, die Auswirkungen auf die Tätigkeit von Wissenschaftler/innen sowie die Einflüsse auf Lehre, Forschung und wissenschaftlichen Weiterbildung nachzudenken.

Den Mitgliedern der SIG Science 2.0 ist es ein Anliegen, über diesen Blog mit anderen Interessierten in einen Austausch zu kommen. Unseres Erachtens erfordern die veränderten Rahmenbedingungen für Lehre und Forschung und der berufsbiografischen Entwicklungschancen von Wissenschaftler/innen einen intensiven Diskurs innerhalb der wissenschaftlichen Community. Wir möchten mit unserer Arbeit zur Entwicklung der Wissenschaft selbst einen Beitrag leisten und Wissenschaftler/innen neue Wege der wissenschaftlichen Kommunikation aufzeigen.»

ETH EduApp

Pünktlich zum Start des Herbstmester 2013 wurde die «ETH EduApp» fertig!

Die «ETH EduApp» ist ein Novum in der Schweizer Hochschullandschaft und stellt eine Innovation für die Hochschullehre dar.

Sie bietet eine Reihe von Möglichkeiten für Studierende und Dozierende, um in der Hochschullehre eingesetzt zu werden.

 
Studierende
sehen ihren persönlichen Stundenplan,
finden den Weg zu Veranstaltungsräumen durch Orientierungskarten/Maps,
können Rückmeldungen zu Lehrveranstaltungen geben und
Clickerfragen von Dozierenden beantworten.

Dozierende
nutzen das integrierte Classroom Response System (Clicker) für kurze Wissensfragen,
präsentieren die Resultate der Clickerfragen und
erhalten Rückmeldungen zu ihrer Lehrveranstaltung in einem Backchannel (Feedback-Kanal).
